South Africa captain Siya Kolisi has continued to work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic through the Kolisi Foundation, and has recently teamed up with cricketer Faf du Plessis.
The 28-year-old has been documenting the work of his organisation over the past few weeks since its inception, as they have delivered medical supplies to hospitals and food to people in need.
The flanker, who has become nothing short of a national hero after guiding his country to Rugby World Cup glory last November, shared photos on Instagram of himself next to du Plessis, who was the captain of South Africa before recently standing down. The pair were wearing PPE equipment as they handed out supplies to people in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town, where Kolisi plays his domestic rugby for the Stormers.
This is what was said by the foundation on Instagram:
“Through the past few weeks we have been amazed and blessed with beautiful stories of hope. Stories of ordinary citizens doing amazing work to support their neighbors and communities… They are truly the heroes to be celebrated!
The Kolisi Foundation partnered with Faf and Imari du Plessis by donating food to the community street feeding scheme in Bonteheuwel consisting of approximately 50 streets.
Today was special as we saw the power of communities stepping up and striving to solve problems to provide sustainable food alleviation.”

With almost all sport around the globe currently suspended, both players have put their spare time to good use during this crisis. Moreover, it may still be a while before either of them are playing again.
Although New Zealand have confirmed that there will be a return to rugby domestically, and Australia cricket are set to start preseason training at the end of May, there is no such news for South Africa or other countries that have been severely affected by coronavirus.
