Reports emerged at the start of the year that Kurtley Beale was being charged with the sexual assault of a 28-year-old woman in Australian beachside suburb, Bondi. The assault was alleged to have happened in a toilet at the Beach Road Hotel back in December 2022.
The charges contain one count of sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of sexual touching without consent.
Today, appearing at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court in a grey suit, Beale stated: “I’m devastated to be here today. I am not guilty”, before adding: “The truth will come out”.
Beale was expected to take part in this years World Cup in France after being included in a 44-man training squad in January.
However the 95-cap fullback is unlikely to be in head coach Eddie Jones’ plans after being stood down in January by both his club side the Waratahs, as well as the national governing body, Rugby Australia.
This is not the first time Beale has found himself facing accusations in court. Many will remember Beale was acquitted on a charge of common assault against a female relative at a family birthday party back in July 2009.
Also Beale was investigated regarding the publication of the offensive text messages which led to Australia’s team business manager Di Patston resigning in 2014.
