The Gallagher Premiership’s only winless team came oh so close to pulling off a remarkable victory as the Newcastle Falcons fell 19 – 13 to the Leicester Tigers.
It took a full 18 minutes into overtime for the Tigers to avoid succumbing to the biggest upset of the season, but they got there in the end.
Struggling to find their rhythm due to the pressure being applied by the Falcons, the Tigers looked disjointed in attack throughout the fixture.
Almost unbelievably the match kept rolling despite the Tigers routinely infringing as the Falcons continued to launch wave after wave of both scrums and attacks inside their opponents 22.
Referee Karl Dickson would reward the host’s dominance by sin-binning replacement Tigers prop James Whitcombe.
In the end it would be World Cup winning Springbok backrow Jasper Wiese who secured the vital turnover just as the clock ticked over to 100 minutes.
Heartbreak for Falcons, elation for @LeicesterTigers!
