Former Welsh international winger Louis Rees-Zammit has learnt his fate with the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the NFL regular season kick-off.
Spending the full offseason with the reigning Super Bowl Champions, Rees-Zammit trained with superstars such as QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce and DT Chris Jones.
Working massively in LRZ’s favour was not only the fact that the Chiefs are jam packed with star talent but have one of the most experienced and creative head coaches in the NFL in Andy Reid.
Speaking about the Welshman following his team’s most recent preseason game, Reid said, “Yeah, we tried to get him the ball a little bit tonight, and he had some real positive yards.
“That’ll be good for him to see and study himself on that, in live action like that. He’s a heck of an athlete. It’s just a matter of getting more familiar with it as he goes here. We’ll see how everything works out for him.”
Lining up in multiple different positions throughout his time with the Chiefs, Rees Zammit showed his versatility which was clearly built off his time in Rugby.
Despite this hard work and overall progress, Rees-Zammit was not named in the Chiefs 53-man roster.
This does not mean his NFL journey is over however as he was named in the franchises’ practice squad where he will continue his development within the team’s structures.
In addition to this training, he could be called up to live action should the Chiefs suffer and injury or another team wish to poach him.
