In another action packed game on the weekend, Toulouse scored two tries to beat Harlequins 21-10 in Pool 6 of the Heineken Cup. Luke McAlister was in fine form on his return to English soil, putting in a great performance at The Stoop.
Former Sale Sharks back McAlister had a good game for the classy French side as he contributed 11 points with the boot and threw his weight about a bit.
“This was a big one for us – Harlequins were on a bit of a roll with 14 from 14 so to knock them off was big for us. Our forwards gave us some good ball to work with, and we were very lucky in that regard and that enabled us to score two good trie,” McAlister said.
“However, it is going to be difficult next week when they come to our ground because they are going to be putting it all in so this week we have to concentrate on our physicality because Harlequins are a very physical side so we have to turn up on Sunday and do the job.”
McAlister brought the physicality as can be seen with this great charge on another quality Kiwi flyhalf that wasn’t required by the All Blacks at the World Cup, Nick Evans. The fact that it’s New Zealander up against New Zealander wasn’t missed by the commentators or the fans, so it was quite amusing to see and worth sharing even if it’s just a short clip.
Toulouse top the pool while Quins need a win in the return fixture to stay within reach.
Both players have been involved in some classic encounters over the years, some of which are listed below in the related posts section if you fancy having a browse.
