Manawatu narrowly missed out on victory over Counties Manakau in the latest round of the Mitre 10 Cup in a closely fought match in Pukekohe, which featured a sublime piece of skill from All Black Nehe Milner-Skudder.
Having led reasonably comfortably for the opening 40 minutes, Manawatu fell behind following a great comeback from Counties, and were left scrambling for a way back into the encounter in the remaining 10 minutes.
They ultimately fell short, losing 36-30 in a high scoring match, but the try of the game came from replacement winger Drew Wild after some fantastic hands.
The set piece was instigated by Manawatu scrum-half Jamie Booth who sent a flying pass to full back Milner-Skudder rushing into the line.
From then on, Milner-Skudder flicked on the ball in no-look fashion to Wild, who in turn side-stepped the last defender brilliantly to touch down.
It wasn’t the winning try unfortunately for Manawatu but it did produce a final piece of magic, and reminded everyone of Milner-Skudder’s skill set.
There were a number of good tries so the full highlights are worth watching too.
