The Hollywoodbets Sharks’ superb run in the EPCR Challenge Cup continued as they completed a furious comeback against Top 14 outfit Clermont at the Twickenham Stoop.
Trailing with ten minutes to play, the Sharks scored a truly world-class try to sneak home with the win.
Starting with a pinpoint box kick from Springbok scrumhalf Grant Williams before Eben Etzebeth pulled off an outlandish take to get his team on the front foot.
From here, the ball shifted quickly with backrow Vincent Tshituka completing a barn-storming offload to find outside centre Lukhanyo Am, who in turn found his Springbok teammate Makazole Mapimipi.
Now trailing by just a point, the Sharks had a conversion to take the lead.
Continuing his hot run of form, player of the match, Siya Masuku, slotted his 8th consecutive kick to put his team in front.
Defending like their lives depended on it for the remaining 8 minutes, John Plumtree’s side secured the crucial win to book their place in the final where they will face either Gloucester or Benetton.
A win in the final would see the Durban based side clinch a spot in next year’s Investec Champions Cup in what would be a major boost following a torrid BKT URC season to date.
