Manu Tuilagi is set to miss two-months of matches after breaking his hand in a recent pre-season friendly match for new club Bayonne.
Tuilagi’s time in south-west France was supposed to symbolise a new start in the stunning surroundings of Bayonne. Known for its narrow medieval streets and beautiful architecture, the scenic views and the local cuisine will be all that the 33-year-old will be experiencing for the next couple of months after breaking his hand ahead of the upcoming rugby season.
Tuilagi was looking to rebuild his body playing in the less physical but smoother flowing French league, but sadly the injury prone centre has once again found himself on the medical list – this time in French.
“Following the preparation match against Biarritz Olympique, some players are returning to the infirmary [hospital],” Bayonne said.
“Manu Tuilagi, with a broken hand, will be out for between six and eight weeks.”
The injury on Tuilagi’s left hand, sustained in Saturday’s 42-5 pre-season victory over Biarritz Olympique, will be monitored by club staff and doctors with an expected return date towards the end of October.
