Mathieu Bastareaud’s career has taken another setback after collapsing to the turf less than four minutes into Lyon’s match against Toulon at Stade Mayol. The popular former France international had to be taken from the field on a stretcher with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.
The injury occurred as Bastareaud was charging into Toulon’s defensive line. The large number 8 appeared to slip and fall just before making contact. However, play quickly stopped as the seriousness of the injury became apparent.

Teammates were quick to wave on the medics after Bastareaud was left screaming and writhing in pain. Later, the Lyon medical staff indicated the potential for ruptured ligaments in his right knee.
Obviously, this will mean yet another significant recovery process is in order. This after he recently spent an extended period of time on the sidelines with a major injury to his left knee.
