Players that have been retained for the 2022 season were very emotional and had a sigh of relief, although on the other hand there was a lot of players looking dejected as the news broke that they would need to be looking for a new club.
The Gillgronis finished 7th in the MLR last season and did have the likes of LaRome White, Marcel Brache and Bryce Campbell in their squad aswell as Canadian winger Cole Davis.
Also, there’s former All Black Issac Ross who is still going strong at the age of 37.
Coaching this side is Sam Harris who will take charge of his second season in charge, after a rugby career where Harris switched between the two codes before settling down to coach union in Japan before heading to the MLR.
Harris had been a member of the Waratahs during the 2007 & 2008 seasons, a year in Japan followed before a season with the Western Force.
His first rugby union coaching job came in 2013 where he was assistant coach at the Honda Heat for four seasons before joining the Black Rams in 2017.
These video clips are all apart of a documentary series called ‘inside the scrum’ which is being aired by The Rugby Network as they take a deep dive into what’s going on behind the scenes at the Gillgronis.
It definitely shows that everything isn’t a guarantee in rugby as things can turn on it’s head very quickly as one minute it could be all good and your out on the training field, then the next you get told you’re no longer required at a club – a harsh reality of club rugby.
