Munster Rugby secured a much-needed 27 – 17 bonus point win over a plucky up-and-coming Ospreys side this evening in their BKT United Rugby Championship clash.
The win temporarily elevates Munster into the top four, but both Edinburgh and Ulster could overtake them should they each claim bonus point wins in their respective fixtures tomorrow.
Two tries from winger Seán O’Brien plus one each from secondrow RG Snyman and winger Shane Daly secured the full five points for Graham Rowntree’s side.
Whilst their attack showed flashes of brilliance, it was Munster’s defence that stood out as they secured the win despite having just 38% possession and 28% territory.
Marshalling much of this defensive effort was fullback Mike Haley, who was once again sublime for the men in red.
Highlighting his defensive prowess, Haley put in what was undoubtedly the tackle of the day on scrumhalf Reuben Morgan-Williams.
Looking to get his team back in contention, the nippy scrumhalf took a crack around the edge of a ruck.
Making some great ground, his run came to an abrupt end as Haley put in a titanic shot with picture-perfect technique.
