Munster confirmed this afternoon the signing of former all black centre Malakai Fekitoa to a two year deal. Fekitoa will join Munster ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The 29 year old has featured 24 times for New Zealand over a three year period between 2014 and 2017. He started his professional rugby career with Auckland in the ITM in 2012. He was then picked up by the Blues and started his Super Rugby career from there. Fekitoa made a name for himself at another New Zealand franchise, the Highlanders before opting to play abroad.
He signed a big contract to join French giants Toulon in 2017 before joining Wasps in 2019. Fekitoa has a world cup winners medal in his back pocket having featured in the pool stages against Georgia in the 2015 pool stages.
Munster are known for making big foreign signings every once in a while. Having had world class centres feature for them in the past such as former Springbok captain Jean de Villers. It is likely that Fekitoa has been signed to replace current Springbok Damian de Allende who is confirmed to leave the southern province at the end of the season. De Allende has been linked with a move to follow Munster’s current head coach, Johann Van Grann to Premiership to join Bath. Munster have signed the former all black to a two year contract.
