As the Women’s World Cup progresses to the knockout stages, we have seen some tremendous matches and some truly world-class tries. With the women’s game on the rise and interest peaking from all areas of the world, some would argue that it’s becoming very hard to miss.
Considering the world cup is taking place in New Zealand, the last people you’d think to forget about the games would be…New Zealand Rugby. Well, that’s exactly what appears to have happened.
The men’s opening tour match against Japan has been scheduled on Saturday at 6.50pm, just 40 minutes before the Black Ferns begin their World Cup quarter-final against Wales in Whangarai at 7.30pm.
New Zealand Rugby has been left red-faced, releasing a statement on the situation:

New Zealand fans have described the mess up as ‘disgraceful’ and slammed the lack of thought going into the scheduling nightmare:
Could you just be honest and say you didn’t realise it would clash with the Women’s quarter final because you didn’t think they would get that far, oh, and you don’t care – because that it is exactly what it looks like.

‘NZR did not take into account’. Says it all.
