Harlequins legends Danny Care and Nick Easter recently sat down to play a round of the opinion game of ‘Debatable.’
Debating a variety of topics, from which nation produces the best players, England underperforms given everything they have available to them.
Starting the debate with the age-old question of who is better, South Africa or New Zealand, the former England scrumhalf Care was pretty emphatic at the moment the Springboks reign supreme.
“It’s a really interesting debate; it’s a good question,” Care said.
“I’ve gone with agree purely on the fact that they are back-to-back World Cup winners.
“You look at the strength in depth in South Africa right now, and you think they could put three different 15s against any other team in the world, and I think they might win or be very close.”
Disagreeing with his former halfback teammate, former All Black Evans was incensed by the notion that South Africa could not only produce better players but beat the All Blacks with a multitude of selections.
“I think it’s in the wording,” Evans said before expanding his point, “I think they probably produce better athletes. I don’t think they produce better rugby players.”
“I think they produce an athlete now to play their game plan, which I will concede that they’re developing athletes. I think New Zealand will still produce better rugby players in terms of feel and game understanding.”
