Earlier today was the launch of Nike’s new England home and away playing kits, including the controversial black jersey that has caused such a stir. Here’s a quick video and more information about both jerseys.
When it was announced a few weeks back that England were close to unveiling a new away strip that was to be all black, for the World Cup in New Zealand, there were mixed reactions, with much negativity coming from certain parts of the world.
New Zealand’s Prime Minister even commented on the concept, famously saying they’re a bunch of ‘Wannabes’, and that ‘There’s only one team that wears black with pride, and that’s the All Blacks.’
The new away jersey is pitch black, with the only colour being that of the red rose, and the white of the sponsors’ logos. The home kit on the other hand is more traditional, but for the first time, is 100% white, offering an amazing contrast between the two.
Featuring all sorts of new technology, from the jerseys to the socks, these kits are aimed to help improve England’s performance, as well as give them a bold new look that will resonate well with their fans and players.
The alternate kit will be worn for the first time when England play Wales this coming weekend (August 6) at Twickenham, with the white kit worn the following week against Wales again, that time in Cardiff.
What are your thoughts on the way they look and the controversy surrounding the away kit?
