Connacht Rugby and the Scarlets are currently stuck in a tight battle at the Parc y Scarlets, with the visitors leading 21 – 14.
Coming out hot, Connacht scored two tries to race into a 14 – 0 lead through Piers O’Connor and Mack Hansen before the home side came racing back into the contest with two tries of their own through Gareth Davies.
For Connacht, things could’ve been a whole lot better as O’Connor was denied a second try, which would’ve been his team’s second and could’ve seen them race away into an unassailable lead.
This score was built off a simply superb 50:22 kick, which pinned the Scarlets right back onto their own 5m line, which Connacht duly set up a driving line-out from.
Before crashing over the line, Connacht were doubly rewarded as Scarlets winger Tom Rogers was shown a yellow card.
Seeming to block Connacht’s quick throw-in attempt, Rogers was shown no sympathy by referee Marius van der Westhuizen, who sent the winger packing.
Whilst Rogers was in the bin, van der Westhuizen would once again wield the yellow card this time; he would brandish Connacht’s Bundee Aki with a sin-binning for a high tackle.
Connacht would end the half brightly as scrumhalf Ben Murphy continued his incredible run of form with yet another try to nudge his team into the lead 21 – 14.
Elsewhere in the URC, reigning champions Glasgow overcame an early deficit to shred Cardiff as they lead 33 – 12 at half-time.
