A Leicester Tigers rugby fan has shared an update on social media after suffering an unfortunate injury during the halftime entertainment at Kingston Park on Saturday.
As the players headed towards the dressing rooms for what was expected to be a standard de-briefing, the activities lit up on the field. As with many Premiership matches, an invitational group of fans were allowed access to the pitch to take part in a halftime event designed to keep onlookers entertained during the break.
This event in particular was a traditional race between fans, one that often gets a rousing reception from the remaining crowd. The ‘Falcons Flyer half-time race’ didn’t quite go to plan this time, however, with two members of a travelling stag do ending their race in the hospital.
The winner of the race, the best man, clearly overexcited by his impressive victory, tackled the groom to the floor, unintentionally tipping him onto his head/neck (a clear red card violation).
At the time, the scenes appeared very serious, with the groomsman needing to be escorted off the field on a stretcher, with the second half being delayed for an extended period.
Fortunately, things turned out well for the stag party, with the groom being released from the hospital shortly afterwards.

Newcastle Falcons released a statement on their social pages to give the viewers some peace of mind:
“Newcastle Falcons are glad to report that the Leicester Tigers supporter who received medical attention during today’s game has been given the all-clear and been released from hospital.
“Having visited Newcastle for his stag do and been tackled by his best man following the Falcons Flyer half-time race, he was given the best medical care possible and taken to hospital.
We are happy to report he has had a scan and been given a clean bill of health, and is now back in his hotel with the stag party. The wedding is going ahead as planned, they are all in good spirits and are extremely thankful for the medical attention and well wishes they have received.”
Users on Reddit were less sympathetic, with many of the comments addressing the humour of the situation. One commented on the amusing photo above, saying: “Roman abramovic has let himself go since selling Chelsea”, whilst another added “World class mullet on that kid in the background.”
Perhaps the halftime entertainment may come with a TMO in future…
