French Rugby’s second division competition, the Pro D2, is one of the most entertaining club rugby leagues to follow.
Stacked with good teams who are all vying for a place in the Top 14, the league routinely produces highly entertaining and competitive fixtures.
With so much on the line, the league also throws up a few upsets each week, and this weekend was no different.
Taking to the pitch as the joint top-place team in the league Association Sportive Béziers Hérault, better known as simply just Béziers, had an opportunity to take sole possession of first place as rivals Vannes slipped to a loss.
Unfortunately for Béziers, they would be thumped by mid-table Dax, who ran away with a 57 – 20 victory. Taking a positive from the round, the other three sides ranked inside the top four would all lose too.
On an evening that was uber-positive for Dax, there is one moment that will haunt them and, in particular, right winger Théo Gatelier.
Finishing off a brilliantly worked try, all that was left for Gatelier to do was put the ball down over the line.
Yet, in a scene that we have seen on far too many occasions, the winger ran towards the posts to aid the conversion.
What he didn’t see in his peripheral vision was a charging defender who dumped him into touch!
