Former United Rugby Championship title winners, the DHL Stormers and Munster Rugby are engaged in a tight and tense battle at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
Taking the lead through a length of the field try through Suleiman Hartzenberg as Munster flyhalf Jack Crowley popped a loose pass which went to ground, the Stormers took the lead against the run of play.
The Irish province struck back through two tries of their own to take the lead as centre Tom Farrell and replacement hooker Eoghan Clarke scored two well-taken tries.
Regaining the lead ahead of the half-time break, the Stormers got their second through backrow Marcel Theunissen.
Watch: Mike Haley’s post match interaction with RG Snyman leaves no doubt about where Munster players stand
In the build-up to Theunissen’s try, the Stormers pulled off a dominant scrum effort, which earned them the penalty kick, which Damian Willemse drilled right up to the Munster line.
Before the flyhalf could get his kick away, there was a ruckus between the two team’s packs and, surprisingly, centre Ruhan Nel.
Rushing up to help his teammates out, the former Blitzbokke star got stuck with the handbags.
While his teammates would certainly have appreciated him having their back, referee Mike Adamson certainly didn’t as he called out the back.
As Adamson was trying to cool the jets of both sides, he called out Nel for special treatment, saying, “Ruhan, I have no idea why you are up here!”
This little interaction was caught on the ref mic, and the commentary team was in stitches as it showed the great rapport that refs have with players even when the red mist descends.
