Back in 2014 former All Blacks winger Rene Ranger was involved in a scuffle with French international Morgan Parra during a Top 14 clash between Clermont and Montpellier.
Parra took a quick penalty to try and catch out the Montpellier defence, only to be met by a brutal dump tackle from Ranger which sent both sides into a frenzy in front of a raucous Clermont crowd.
Parra took exception to Ranger’s hit because he wasn’t 10 metres back from the penalty mark, but the scrum half reacted by throwing a head butt at the former All Black.
Referee Sébastien Minery sent Ranger to the sin bin but showed a red card to Parra, which had the Montpellier winger smiling in the dugout.
Parra was later banned for two weeks which meant he missed a Six Nations game against Scotland and despite playing three quarters of the match with 14 men, Clermont went on to win the game 42-16.
