According to reports coming from France, the summer match between the World XV and France is set to be cancelled after ‘organisational problems’ have halted the event.
The match was due to take place in Bilbao in June, with the Spanish location welcoming the highest levels of international rugby for a thrilling exhibition match.
Already one of the eight venues involved in World Rugby’s international SVNS competition, Bilbao would have been the location for many of the worlds greatest players to showcase their skills, including Maxime Machenaud (Bayonne & France), Camille Lopez (Bayonne & France), Mako Vunipola (Saracens & England), Semi Radradra (Lyon & Fiji), Billy Vunipola (Saracens & England), Tevita Tatafu (Bayonne) and Owen Farrell (Saracens and England).
Detailing the reasons behind the cancellation, RugbyRama, a French rugby publication, has claimed: “The necessary safety conditions have not been met by the organiser.”
Reports have suggested that there will be a last-gasp attempt to avoid a full cancellation as organisers meet on Monday 13th May.
A statement from the organiser, Live Rugby reads:
“The promoter is working to find a new date in the international calendar for the organisation of this match. Tickets already purchased will be fully refunded via the dedicated website www.thematchrugby.com/fr.”
