It seems Joe Marler is happy to keep the rugby world on its toes. One minute, he’s the life of the part, next minute, he’s getting carded for unnecessary foul play. He was yellow-carded Friday night after a shot to the face of Sharks’ Jean-Luc Du Preez.
It was a bad night for Harlequins all around as they were on the receiving end of a 48-10 drubbing from Sale Sharks.
Marler’s actions were enough to be branded “absolutely ridiculous” by Quins’ own head of rugby, Paul Gustard.
“I’m sure Joe will look at himself, it’s absolutely ridiculous. There’s no need for that.”
“There was plenty of off-the-ball stuff from Sale and we’ve got to rise above it but Joe was the protagonist and there’s just no place for that… It cost us an important player for 10 minutes and put the team under pressure again.”
