La Rochelle head coach Ronan O’Gara has been handed a six-week touchline ban starting immediately.
The ban comes following an altercation with a match official in the wake of his sides 23 – 20 win over Lyon.
O’Gara is widely regarded as one of the hottest coaching commodities in the game today follow his side’s win in the Heineken Champions Cup last season.
Prior to taking over at La Rochelle, O’Gara enjoyed successful stints with now rivals Racing92 and the Crusaders in New Zealand.
LNR who are the managing authority of the Top14 made the following statement.
“It is on the higher degree of the scale of gravity, meaning a suspension of 6 weeks.”
“After taking into account the aggravating circumstance (his disciplinary record), the penalty was increased by two weeks.”
“After taking into account the mitigating circumstances (acknowledgment of guilt, conduct before and during the hearing), the sanction was reduced by two weeks.”
O’Gara’s side have started the season on a fine note currently sitting as the only undefeated team in the competition after three rounds.
