South African Nick Koster has sadly passed away at the age of 34. The former flanker played for clubs in South Africa and England before announcing his retirement in 2018.
There have been tributes paid by his former club, with Bristol Bears “devastated to hear of the tragic passing of [the] hugely popular former player “, before adding, “Our thoughts, prayers and love are with Nick’s wife Jeannie and his two young children.”
Bath Rugby have extended their “heartfelt sympathies” to Nick’s family, friends, and teammates and said that he will be “sorely missed” and will “always remain part of the Bath Rugby family.”
The cause of Koster’s death has not been announced, but the family requests privacy at this time.
Gary Gold, a former colleague at Bath and the Stormers, described him as “One of the best schoolboy rugby players to have ever played the game and an outstanding person and friend.”
Koster was shortlisted for Community Player of the Season in 2017 for his incredible work with the club’s Community Foundation, helping with a number of programmes and initiatives with young people in Bristol.
