Antoine Dupont’s limelight has shone brightly in recent times after choosing to focus on representing his country in SVNS rugby. Dupont has taken the shorter version of the game by storm after helping France to their first title victory in 19 years.
Seeing how well Dupont has done has made many pundits consider which other players could have an impact if they were to transfer to the seven-person game.
BBC Sport recently announced their dream Six Nations sevens team under the direction of Ugo Monye, Sam Warburton and John Barclay.
Here at RugbyDump, we’ve had a go of our own. Let’s have a look at the players that we feel could do the business in the seven-player game:
Duhan van der Merve
Absolute athlete. A huge frame that would be perfect in the scrum with jet-fuelled boots that could cause carnage up the middle of the park.
Thomas Ramos
A multi-talented player who has already proven to slot well into different positions whenever called upon – hooker shouldn’t be too far a stretch…right?
Ben Earl
Explosive on the ball, with even the great Stuart Barnes recently suggesting the backrow player could indeed transition to the centres in the 15s game.
Jamison Gibson-Park
Dictates one of the quickest attacks in world rugby, the seven-a-side game would be perfect for the New Zealand born Irishman.
Marcus Smith
The modern day goose-stepping king makes 15s seem like 7s half the time, so to see Smith cutting it up in even more space would be pretty wild.
Ange Capuozzo
Everyone saw how he cut up Wales a couple of years ago in an inch of space, now imagine him gifted a full pitch and half the players to run at.
Rio Dyer
Young, fast and not afraid to be a direct runner. Dyer has an eye for the try line and could find his talents pretty well appreciated on the sevens circuit.
