Scotland got their November international series off to a rather disappointing start with a narrow 16 – 15 loss to the Wallabies.
In a tight affair, neither side lit the world alight with their play but as with any close contests plenty of lessons will have been learnt.
One such lesson was a moment of individual brilliance from Scotland’s twenty-two-year-old fullback Ollie Smith who was standing in for incumbent Stuart Hogg.
In a game with relatively limited opportunities, Smith got the hosts off to the best possible start with a great score just over ten minutes into the game.
A true standout for Glasgow over the past two seasons, Smith looks set to push Hogg for his place in the team throughout this November.
Having lacked any real challengers for the jersey for the majority of his career, Hogg will be looking to remind the rugby world of his class when he returns to the side.
In the meantime, head coach Gregor Townsend now has a great selection conundrum with two high quality options for the fullback role.
