Everyone remembers Freddie Burn’s howler against Toulouse a few years ago in the European Champions Cup. Playing for Bath at the time, Burns had broken the line surely about to touch down to win the game for the English side in front of the home fans at The Recreation Ground. This was before Toulouse star Maxime Medard knocked the ball out of Burns’ hands in the dying embers of the match.
Well in not quite as damning circumstances, it’s happened again, this time to Sekou Macalou of Stade Francais. The Parisians were flying ahead against Brive in the 63rd minute, as some wonderful team play saw Macalou given the ball to touch down in the corner.
Appearing to think he had more time than he did, Macalou nonchalantly attempted to place the ball down before having it knocked cleanly out of his grasp by the Brive replacement.
Fortunately for Stade Francais and Macalou the men in pink went on to win the game 27-0.
