Leinster notched up their fifth straight league victory over the Cardiff Blues, moving them to the top of the Magners League table after they won 32-6 at the RDS on the weekend.
Cardiff’s Ben Blair kicked poorly all night, missing three of his five penalty attempts, which Leinster reaped the rewards from as their flyhalf Johnny Sexton kicked 13 points.
The European champions scored early on through wing Shane Horgan, who scored his 30th Magners League try, taking him to joint second place behind top scorer Tommy Bowe.
British & Irish Lions wing Luke Fitzgerald fizzed down the left wing after some neat quick hands from Gordon Darcy set him away. He beat a man then found support before the ball was recycled for Sexton put in a deft kick that found the chasing right wing Horgan.
Darcy played a part twice, but it was Fitzgerald who’s gas made it happen, and Sexton who showed why he’s been called up to the Ireland squad.
They will face Australia, Fiji, and South Africa over the next few weeks.
On a side note, a great try like this is surely worthy of an “
Aaaaawww
” or a “
Horrrrgann!”
, but unfortunately the old timers in the commentary box struggled to get overly excited about it, leaving one feeling a little flat.
