Racing 92 secured their third victory of the Top 14 season with a 27-11 victory over Castres at home, with new recruits Simon Zebo and Finn Russell stealing the show once again.
Ireland utility back Zebo and Scottish fly-half Russell have become quite the fan favourites in Paris this season, and the pair combined brilliantly for both of Zebo’s tries.
Zebo’s first half effort was executed well after Russell redressed his course to draw two defenders and offload to the Irishman, who ran a superb line off Russell’s shoulder to cruise under the posts.
Russell’s reverse pass to Zebo may have drifted forward ever so slightly, but the ambition shown by both in attack is indicative of why they were signed from Glasgow and Munster respectively.
The second was arguably the pick of the two as Russell picked out Zebo’s cutting angle with a perfectly weighted flat pass along the line. Once in space, Zebo was unchallenged to the line to all but bury the match for the home side.
Racing certainly have themselves two star players that thrive on performing on the big occasion and their collaborations this season have already made them potent attacking forces within the star-studded squad.
Injury permitting, they should feature heavily in Racing’s European Champions Cup campaign beginning in October as well as the End-of-Year Internationals.
