Fiji tore apart a struggling Australia side yesterday in a performance that goes down in the history books as their first victory over the Wallabies since 1954.
Fiji were desperately unlucky not to have beaten Wales in their previous game, with captain Semi Radradra sadly failing to scoop up the ball on the touchline to score what would have been the probable winner in that game. Their redemption was sweet though, as they’ve put themselves firmly back in contention for a quarter-final qualification spot following their victory over Australia.
The whole rugby world appears to be cheering on Fiji as the Pacific Island nation finally combines its immense natural talents with the discipline required to be a top-tier nation. Their dominance in the 7s series has always given an indication of what is possible in the 15s game, and now it appears that their ascension is finally upon us.
Such is the beauty behind the way they play and the nature as to which the nation enjoys rugby, fans from around the world have certainly elected them as their new favourite team.
All Black legend Sonny Bill Williams has been into the Fiji changing room to congratulate the side:
Always got mad love for my Fijian brothers. Bula! ❤️🤲🏽🏉 #RWC2023 https://t.co/uJA9dMYJX4
