Whilst the Six Nations takes the attention of most of the rugby world for the next few weeks, it’s easy to forget that the Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries have their own competition going on at the same time.
Structured as a pool stage and knockout competition, the Rugby Europe International Championship follows the World Cup in bringing ‘make or break’ matches into the fray from the very start.
After just two rounds, Pool A has already had their qualifiers decided, with Georgia and Spain now fighting it out for the top spot in the match next weekend. Spain recently defeated Germany 27-5, and you can see from the below video what an important occasion it was for their fans:

On the other side of the competition, Pool B is yet to be decided, with Romania, Portugal and Belgium all still in the running for qualification. Romania take on Portugal in a ‘winner takes all’ match, whilst Belgium take on bottom place Poland in an effort to leapfrog those above them.
