Springbok director of rugby Rassie Erasmus has once again caught the ire of World Rugby with his online and very public criticism of the game’s top match officials.
Erasmus who has only just returned from a lengthy ban for his criticism of Australian referee Nic Berry following his Bok sides test one loss to the British & Irish Lions will not be on the side lines for the Boks remaining two fixtures of the year against Italy and England.
World Rugby said, “Match officials are the backbone of the sport and without them there is no game.
“World Rugby condemns any public criticism of match official selection, performance or integrity, which undermines their role, the trust-based coach/match officials feedback process and the values of integrity, respect, solidarity and discipline that are at the heart of the sport.”
Erasmus’s criticism of match officials has been heavily covered by the rugby media over the past few weeks and it will be interesting to hear his response to World Rugby’s verdict in the coming hours/days.
