Springbok captain Eben Etzebeth’s father Harry passed away on Tuesday night as reported by South African journalist Hendrik Cronje.
One of nine children, Harry was a successful wrestler and cricket player who was well known in the Western Cape are of South Africa.
Cronje also reported that Etzebeth requested to play against Wales in Bloemfontein last season to ensure that his father could see him make his 100th appearance in Cape Town a week later.
Harry is said to have been battling an illness and was unable to travel hence Eben’s desire to make his 100th appearance in Cape Town.
He asked to play in the Bloem test against Wales last year so that he could reach his 100th in Cape Town. The reason is that it was difficult for his dad, Harry, to travel. He wanted to achieve the milestone with him there. Special 🙏🤗 https://t.co/2Y0SA3S425

Of the nine children many rugby fans will also be familiar with his brother Cliffie who tragically passed away in a motor accident in 2018.
The decision on whether Eben plays against the All Blacks is said to be his to make.
All of our thoughts are with the Etzebeth family at this difficult time.
