The South African number 10 shirt seems to be utterly cursed at the moment. Handré Pollard and Elton Jantjies have both been ruled out of the squad for the time being, albeit for very different reasons. As it was, Damian Willemse was given the shirt for last week’s match against Argentina in which the Springboks won comfortably.
Unfortunately for Willemse, his time at fly-half has been cut short for the time being as he sustained a concussion in their victory, ruling him out for their next clash against the Pumas this Saturday.
Instead of opting to call back Jantjies, the Springboks have gone with veteran star Frans Steyn to act as playmaker in the must-win clash. The 35-year-old already has 76 international caps to his name and has always been a fan favourite with the world champions.
Known around the world for his ability to kick huge drop goals and place kicks, Argentina are going to have to be very careful about where they conceed their penalties this weekend.
Steyn is undoubtedly a world-class player in more ways than just through his boot, however if you check out the below videos you’ll be able to see just why that right peg is so feared:
