With an eye towards the World Cup, this year’s abbreviated Rugby Championship should provide a good tune-up for the Southern hemisphere teams. Springbok fans are hoping the Xhosa language commentators will have plenty of time to find their voice as well, as their joy in commentary is undeniably infectious.
Even though many of us can’t understand a word, passion and excitement are universal. In fact, it would seem they’re the most excited people on earth when their team scores a try. Even for those who aren’t Springbok fans, it’s hard not to smile at the unbridled passion in these voices.
South Africa will hope to hear them celebrate many times when the Springboks host Australia as the first round kicks off in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Argentina then host New Zealand, with local fans hoping to hear their Spanish commentators raise the roof too.
