Statement: Finn Russell injury update

BY Jack Tunney  ·  Wednesday Apr 17, 2024

Bath’s incredible Premiership season has hit a major stumbling block this week, as it has been confirmed by head coach, Johan van Graan that playmakers Finn Russell and Cameron Redpath have both been hit with “significant” injuries.

“He injured his groin.” Van Graan explained. “The injury is what we call significant. What we mean by that is it is not a thing he will quickly run off in four or five days, that is why he have got all the expert advice that we have.”

Van Graan continued saying that his medical team, led by Rory Murray, were going to “leave no stone unturned” to get him back on the pitch as soon as they can.

“He has had a week away with his family and now he is back in the building starting his rehab and hopefully we can get him back on the pitch soon.”

Contradicting rumours of the injury being ‘season ending’, Van Graan added: “If any of our players have a season-ending injury we will report that. Sam Harris had a season-ending injury in training on Friday and we put that out in our injury press release.

“We and Finn are aligned – he wants to get back as soon as possible – whether that is in a week or six weeks time. As soon as he is medically ready and then rugby ready we will get him out. I am very hopeful but from our side we are going to take the pressure off Finn.

“I have got the utmost trust in Rory, what he has done with his medical team and Alex [Martin, head of physical performance] has done from a physical performance point of view over the last two years has been incredible. I put all my trust in them and when they say he is ready we will put him back out.”
