The DHL Stormers squeaked past the Sale Sharks at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town this evening.
Racing out to a two-score lead early on, John Dobson’s simply couldn’t shake the heavily rotated Sharks.
In the end, the Stormers would emerge with a bonus point 31 – 24 victory and almost stopped their visitors from leaving with a losing bonus point as Manie Libbok’s late penalty drifted just wide.
The win propels the Cape Townians to second in the group behind Leinster ahead of Leicester Tiger’s clash with La Rochelle tomorrow.
One particular moment that the Stormers will want to forget was a wild intercept try they conceded right on their own line.
It would be electric winger Leolin Zas who was the instigator of the incident as he appeared to lose his bearings as Sale centre Sam Bedlow gratefully accepted the easiest try of his career.
The score would bring the visitors back within one score and put the hosts under immense pressure for the final ten minutes of the clash.
Next up for the Stormers is a trip to Paris to face a Stade Francais side who are already eliminated from play-off contention. For Alex Sanderson’s Sharks they will face defending champions La Rochelle in what should be a cracking contest.
