The Barbarians scored five tries as they defeated England 33-26 in an entertaining match at Twickenham on Saturday. The home side came back strongly in the second half, but fell short of victory.
Baa Baas hooker Schalk Brits was named Man of the Match as he showed the kind of form that made him a fan favourite at Newlands for years. He will join Saracens next season, but for now, cant wait to face Australia this weekend.
“It’s a great experience playing for the Barbarians and to be able to face England and Australia in the space of a week is fantastic.
“It’s still amazing that a group of players can come together for just a few weeks and then play such great rugby but when I look around the quality players in this squad, it doesn’t surprise me.”
Martin Corry and Josh Lewsey had memorable matches themselves, as it was both of their last games before hanging up their boots.
“Everything about it has been great – apart from last 20 minutes,” Corry joked.
“It’s been very special, the national anthem, the game… Looking back, everything about the day will put a smile on my face.
“The kids will remember this one forever as well as me. Having the family and my kids here today, it’s been very special.
“It’s very rare that you can choose the way you go and the manner you do it.”
It wasnt a great day for England, despite coming back nicely after falling behind early. They will need to regroup and improve as they face Argentina at Old Trafford this Saturday.
