Super Rugby is finally back in full swing and after a great weekend of matches, there was plenty to get excited about with high-scoring contests and even individual players scoring more tries than some teams. Here’s a look at the best tries from week one.
The Rebels got things started with some nice handling and a fend and score from captain Nic Stirzaker. However, it was all Blues thereafter as tries came aplenty thanks in part to a brilliant run by Augustine Pulu and a Rieko Ioane hat-trick.
The Hurricanes had no problem whatsover in scoring as many tries as they wanted against the Sunwolves, as both Savea brothers got on the scoreboard.
Quade Cooper is back in Super Rugby and picked up nicely as he helped start the James Tuttle try against the Sharks, and the very large Will Skelton casually jogged through the Force on his way to a score for the Waratahs.
Not to be outdone, the South African sides certainly had plenty of breathtaking tries as well, especially from the Stormers as they beat the Bulls with the help of Jano Vermaak’s blazing pace.
Unfortunately for the Stormers, the win came with a price. They will be without the services of centre Damian de Allende for up to three months due to an ankle injury.
