The Wallabies come right against the Springboks in Brisbane

The Wallabies had a spring in their step in Brisbane on Saturday as they looked a totally different side to the one that went down to the Springboks last weekend. This week they fronted up, coming away with a convincing 21-6 victory.

They upped the physicality, made far less errors, and looked more organised on defence. The passing was also far more accurate. Will Genia and Berick Barnes made a huge difference to the team that had lost six Tri Nations matches on the trot until this great win in Brisbane.

The Springboks created a few things, but weren’t quite clinical enough to take advantage.

“The intensity was not quite where it should have been. Its hard to pinpoint where it went wrong. We had our moments and just couldnt put it together,” Bok captain John Smit said.

Bryan Habana was forced to make two excellent try saving tackles, Fourie Du Preez ripped the ball from Genia’s grasp over the tryline, and Matt Giteau came within inches of scoring but was tackled out by Jaque Fourie. Those are the inches that change Test matches, yet the Aussies still won convincingly. This was their game.

“We had a few things go against us but they kept their heads up and they played for the full 80 minutes,” Wallaby coach Robbie Deans said.

“Some you win, some you lose. Well done to the Wallabies; they were brilliant at keeping us under pressure,” said South African coach Peter de Villiers.
