Super Rugby Pacific 2024 returned with a bang over the weekend as the Pacific’s premier Rugby Union talent strutted their stuff.
Starting with a truly world-class clash between two of the competition’s favourites, the Chiefs and Crusaders, the weekend did not disappoint.
That clash between the two New Zealand heavyweights provided several highlight reel moments that offered a glimpse into what would be the next generation of potential All-Black talent.
In the end, the Chiefs would sneak it with a 33 – 29 victory in what could be a crucial tiebreaker come the end of the season.
Across the Tasman Sea, the Brumbies would remind the rest of the league that they look set to once again be the Australian forerunners as they blitzed 30 – 3 the Rebels in Melbourne to get their campaign off to the best possible start.
Completing day one, the Hurricanes travelled to Perth and put on a clinic with All Blacks World Cup star Jordie Barrett to the fore as they closed out an impressive 44 – 14 win over the Western Force.
On Saturday, the Blues got things going with a convincing 34 – 10 victory over the Fijian Drua, whilst the Highlanders saw off Moana Pasifika 35 – 21.
Closing out the action, the Reds and Waratahs played out a highly entertaining fixture at Suncorp Stadium.
Leading the charge for the Reds were three young Wallabies, Tate McDermott, Harry Wilson and Fraser McReight, who were all sensational for Les Kiss’s side.
Below is a cool compilation of the five best tries from the opening round of action.
