Confirmed today, the news that Wallaby fly half Carter Gordon will be exiting rugby union in favour of rugby league following the financial collapse of his club, Melbourne Rebels.
The 23-year-old playmaker performed in the club’s final ever match last weekend as they were dumped from the Super Rugby Pacific playoffs in the quarter finals. Shortly afterwards the club announced their expulsion from the league after 14 years of competition.
With options available for the talented ten, Gordon has decided to follow the likes of Mark Nawaqanitawase into the NRL as he signs for the Gold Coast Titans.
In a statement released by his new side, Titans Coach Des Hasler said he’s looking forward to welcoming Gordon to thge squad, saying:
“Carter has competed well in rugby, representing his country and playing at the World Cup,”
“What has impressed me is his attitude to test himself and take on the challenge of switching to a new code.
“He’s a skillful player who backs himself.”
The 23-year-old says he’s excited to move to the Gold Coast and test himself in the NRL.
“I’m excited with the direction that rugby league is taking and the positive feeling around the game,” Gordon said.
“At 23, I feel like I had to take this opportunity now.
“I’m under no illusions and understand that this will be a massive challenge.
“I was really impressed with the Titans and the professionalism they displayed in our meetings.
“I’ve loved my time with rugby as it’s given me the opportunity to represent my country which I’ll always appreciate.”
Gordon will join the Titans for the 2025 and 2026 NRL seasons.
