To kick start the New Year a brilliant compilation has been put together by YouTuber Andrew Forde which showcases 32 unforgettable tries from the 2021 calendar year.
The 10-minute montage features unbelievable scores from the Six Nations, Gallagher Premiership, Super Rugby and host of other top flight competitions as well as some epic grassroots tries.
The first try in the video, scored by Clermont winger Damian Penaud, is arguably the pick of the bunch and came during France’s Six Nations clash with Scotland at Stade de France.
In fact the team try by Les Bleus was so good it received the International Rugby Players Men’s Try of the Year award and involved some of the game’s biggest stars including Virimi Vakatawa, Antoine Dupont and Romain Ntamack.
As described by Rugby365: “Going from one 22 to another, France fashioned a score for the ages in that match against Scotland at Stade de France.
“Taking a quick tap from a marked box kick, fullback Brice Dulin set off on an electrifying run before finding Romain Ntamack and Arthur Vincent in support.
“Antoine Dupont swiftly transferred the ball away from the breakdown and Virimi Vakatawa drew the defence before offloading to Damian Penaud whose footballing skills – including a chip, chase and dribble – took him over in the corner for a wonderful try.”
The other nominees for the award were Lukhanyo Am (South Africa A, v British and Irish Lions on July 14), Pierre-Louis Barassi (France, v Australia on July 17) and Luke Jacobson (New Zealand, v Argentina on September 12).
Penaud, 25, has earned 28 caps for France since making his debut in 2017 and scored 13 tries in the process. The Clermont speedster has also represented his club 91 times and is widely regarded as one of the most deadly finishers in Europe.
