Alex Corbisiero is on a mission. In this latest series from World Rugby, the former England international and British and Irish Lion goes searching stateside for any untapped rugby talent hiding in plain sight. His goal is to build a quality rugby team from scratch around athletes from the most popular American sports.
According to the description, Cross The Line will follow Corbisiero as he builds a grass-roots American rugby team from athletes that have very limited knowledge of the sport.
This series will see them crossing over from basketball, American football, track and field, and soccer to see if they have what it takes to play rugby.
Like any other sport, rugby takes years to master. The skills necessary are honed from youth and perfected through years of constant practice.
However, this series will seek to answer questions about transferable skills and undiscovered potential. Many of these sports share common traits, such as balance, proper footwork, and work away from the ball.
Rugby is still trying to get a solid foothold in the larger American landscape. As seen in this first video, it’s a sport that is certainly held in high esteem.
Corbisiero could very well be a key to the larger development of the sport in America. He was born in the States and has been active in the rugby community there as both an analyst for NBC Sports and a scrum coach for the MLR champion LA Giltinis.
Keep an eye out as the story unfolds.
