Friday’s Super Rugby AU clash between the Waratahs and Brumbies in Sydney saw a hilarious standoff between both forward packs at a lineout.
The Brumbies set up a maul near the halfway line at Sydney Cricket Ground but the Tahs players decided not to make any contact with the opposition.
The seven Brumbies forwards stopped and looked at the referee for further instruction before eventually moving forward unopposed.
The Tahs players looked confused by the situation, but as long as the ball carrier remained at the front of the maul there was no obstruction, which then forced them to engage. Had the Brumbies transferred the ball to the back of the maul and started advancing, then it would have been classed as obstruction.
