All Blacks brothers Akira and Rieko Ioane were cruelly denied an amazing 75-metre try for the Blues during Sunday’s Super Rugby Aotearoa clash with the Highlanders.
With just over five minutes before the end of the first half the Blues made a brilliant turnover on their own five metre line.
From there the ball was daringly spun out wide to flanker Akira Ioane, who was hovering on the right wing, and the powerful ball carrier beat Highlanders fly half Josh Ioane (unrelated) on the outside with a lovely fend.
Akira then charged 40 metres down the far touchline before producing a lovely looping pass back in-field to his brother Rieko, who stepped the final defender to score an incredible try in front of jubilant home fans at Eden Park.

However unfortunately after a TMO referral, Akira’s pass on the far touchline was deemed to have travelled forward and therefore the try was harshly ruled out.
