Wales centre Nick Tompkins scored a controversial try against Australia during Saturday’s Autumn Nations Series game in Cardiff.
The 26-year-old attempted a one-handed interception from Tom Wright and batted the ball downwards, which the Wallabies assumed was a deliberate knock-on. Tomkins looked at the referee as he gathered possession awaiting a decision but was simply allowed to run the ball in under the posts.
Referee Mike Adamson indicating that the ball had travelled backwards and the try was awarded to the surprise of every Australian in the stadium, and possibly Tomkins too.

The try came just after the half time break and proved a turning point in the game, contributing to a narrow 29-28 win for the Welsh at the Principality Stadium.
