England prop Ellis Genge has come under fire for striking Ireland fly-half Johnny Sexton repeatedly with his elbow as the two were tangled up in the final minutes of their Six Nations clash on Saturday.
The incident has already gained a large amount of attention online as Genge can be seen aggressively thrusting his elbow into Sexton’s head and neck area over and over. However, reactions have been mixed as many have also indicated that Genge is reacting to being held.
Held or not, World Rugby have made it clear that contact to the head is something they are trying to limit, thus a ban could be forthcoming.

For his part, Sexton asked referee Mathieu Raynal to review the incident with the TMO but he was subsequently denied.
It will now be up to the citing commissioners to determine what – in anything – will come from the situation.
