Fans weren’t happy over the missed red card in the first of the Champions Cup round of 16 clashes.
Connacht hosted Leinster in the first of two legs of their Champions Cup round of 16 clash last night. Leinster came away 26-21 point winners over the home side. Leinster have a 5 point aggregate advantage over Connacht coming into the return leg at the Aviva Stadium next Friday evening.
Connacht started the game off strong with winger John Porch getting over for the first score of the game after just 2 minutes of play. However Leinster responded with a brace of tries from James Lowe, with the tries scored within 4 minutes of each other. Leinster led 18-11 at the break.
Leinster again started the second half strong, with Hugo Keenan getting over for Leinster’s third try of the evening. However Connacht lock Leva Fiftita scored for Connacht on 60 minutes, converted by Jack Carty leaving the score at 23-21 to Leinster with the final quarter to play. A penalty from substitute Ross Byrne with 3 minutes left on the clock was enough to see Leinster through to the return leg with a win.
"He's very lucky. There's no doubt."
Do you agree with Karl Dickson's decision to show Jamison Gibson-Park a yellow card for this challenge?

However one big talking point from the game came in 56 minute when Connacht scrum half Kieran Marmion, went down with what seemed like a serious blood injury to his nose. The replay showed substitute scrum half for Leinster, Jamison Gibson-Park having his shoulder collide with Marmion’s nose. The incident was referred to the TMO and referee Karl Dickson opted to put Gibson Park in the sin bin for 10 minutes. However many fans on Twitter disagreed with the call and some said they had never seen a more obvious red card.
Couldn't be a more obvious red card #CONvLEI https://t.co/Bta2FX14PL

Is it because he’s an ex player he’s reluctant to give a red card? If Wayne Barnes is refereeing it’s a red card immediately https://t.co/eYNXnv2Y3c

Appalling decision. https://t.co/6mXNcEK8Hb— paul teare (@KTjuta) April 9, 2022
You can't break someone's nose with shoulder contact and get away with a yellow card because you're lightweight.

Red red red.
That shoulder turn in to the attackers face is fully unmitigated and, at very least, purposeful. https://t.co/HqWrVngpb0— charlie. (@yeeeat) April 9, 2022
