Fans online were ‘lost for words’ on something they’ve ‘never seen before’.
The beginning of Zebre against the Scarlets clash last Saturday was a bit bizarre. Off the kickoff, as the commentators put it, referee Jaco Peyper was laying down a marker for the rest of the game.
Scarlets came away 41-24 winner in Parma last Saturday in the URC clash, as Zebre remain bottom of the overall table and yet to win a game this season. Zebre have played 12 and lost 12 and have only registered 2 points on the league table, coming from one try bonus point and one losing bonus point.
The very first kickoff of the match produced a bizarre incident that many fans had never seen before. Zebre outhalf Carlo Canna was preparing to kick the match off as referee Jaco Peyper as usual ensured the two sides were ready. Once Peyper blew his whistle Canna kicked the ball off long. However the ball didn’t even have the chance to land before referee Peyper blew his whistle. The referee brought the play back for a Scarlets put in at the scrum as Canna took the kickoff from inside the Scarlets half. The commentators said that he was “a good two yards in Scarlets territory”.
Many fans agreed with the referee’s decision to blow it back and said “it’s time referee’s start blowing it up”. This is definitely something you don’t see everyday!
